[ku:L] Öblarn

Two outstanding bands from Ireland are the focus of this year's Guinness IRISH CHRISTMAS:
ALTAN – the internationally acclaimed superstars of Irish folk
Buíoch – a young, energetic band from the heart of Ireland

ALTAN (County Donegal) – The legend of Irish folk
With over 20 albums, worldwide tours, and a voice that gets under your skin, ALTAN is one of the most renowned Irish folk groups of our time. The band stands for traditionally rooted music that inspires with virtuosity, tempo, and emotion. With ALTAN, we are bringing a band to Austria that has played at venues such as the White House, Carnegie Hall, and Royal Albert Hall – a milestone for our festival.

ALTAN line-up:
Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh – fiddle, lead vocals
Clare Friel – fiddle, vocals
Mark Kelly – guitar
Ciarán Curran – bouzouki
Martin Tourish – Accordion

Buíoch (County Laois) – Fresh, grateful, and full of energy
Buíoch is a young band that emerged from a creative project during the pandemic. Their sound is traditional yet progressive—full of original compositions, dynamism, and Irish joie de vivre. Their name means “grateful”—a feeling they bring to the stage with every note.

Buíoch lineup:
Ruaidhrí Tierney – button accordion
David Harte – upright bass
Kurt Dinneen Carroll – tin whistle, uilleann pipes
Dale Mckay – guitar

Look forward to an unforgettable evening with two outstanding voices of modern Irish folk – a musical journey from the wild coast of Donegal to the green heart of Ireland.
